 During World War II, the British Armed Forces planned on constructing an aircraft carrier made completely out of Pykrete. Pykrete is a frozen compound made out of sawdust and water, and is surprisingly durable for its components, hence why they felt it could be a successful replacement for steel. They planned on using this Pykrete aircraft carrier to combat German U-boats. This project fell through eventually, because it was expensive and the British were able to solve the problems faced in other ways, but it was an interesting concept to try and create an aircraft carrier out of such odd materials.
