The Tunnel Rats

Tunnel Rats were essentially US soldiers who would clear out Vietnamese tunnels underground. This was one of the worst jobs to have during the war, as it was extremely dangerous. The Vietnamese would dig intricate tunnel systems underground that were usually very small in diameter, so US tunnel rats would strip down their gear to just a flashlight and pistol. What made this job dangerous is the lack of space to move around, the lack of light so the enemy would hide in the dark, and the amount of Vietcong that could be in one tunnel.
